Clinic -Internal Wrangler
Clinic’s first and best album is a breezy tour through the would be New York post-punk explosion of the early aughts. Except they’re from Liverpool, and Adrian Blackburn’s vocals are more awkward and impish, sounding almost Icelandic, than anything approaching a Julian Casablancas’ swagger. Internal Wrangler pushes beyond a normal 2000 rock record with its instrumentation too; keyboards that sound like organs, melodica, discordant flutes, ocean sound effects etc. That sound mixed with Blackburn’s vocals make this a charming and warm album, but it’s the sheer scope and confidence of its genre hopping that makes Internal Wrangler the influential classic it is.
